Environmental & Planning Officer
Location: Head Office, Mayo (with regional site travel)
Contract: Full-Time, subject to probation
Role Overview
A leading organisation in the construction, quarrying, or environmental services sector is seeking an Environmental & Planning Officer to oversee environmental compliance and planning across multiple sites in the Connaught region.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a motivated professional who wants to take ownership of environmental and planning functions, support site operations, and drive continuous environmental performance improvements. The role combines site-based fieldwork, regulatory compliance, and project-based environmental management.
Key Responsibilities
Environmental Monitoring & Field Work
- Conduct noise monitoring, water sampling, and dust collection
- Perform regular site inspections and environmental assessments
- Support the implementation of environmental controls and improvements
Planning & Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure full compliance with planning permission conditions
- Track planning permission expiry dates and maintain documentation
- Liaise with local authorities, regulatory bodies, and nearby residents
- Collaborate with consultants on planning applications and environmental reports
Environmental Management Systems & Reporting
- Develop, maintain, and improve Environmental Management Systems (EMS)
- Complete Article 27 (Soil & Stone) submissions and road-planning documentation
- Prepare Waste Return Forms and Annual Returns for the NWCPO
- Produce environmental reports and maintain accurate data records
- Monitor company waste streams and arrange appropriate disposal
Operational Support & Administration
- Carry out audits and assessments on quarry or industrial sites
- Review and sign off invoices, ensuring accurate allocation
- Verify monthly waste ticket documentation
- Provide environmental support to site and quarry managers
- Contribute technical input to tender submissions
General Requirements
- Flexibility regarding site locations and working hours
- Ability to work independently and as part of an operational team
Skills & Qualifications
- Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or related discipline
- 2–3 years’ relevant experience (quarry or manufacturing environment desirable)
- Strong knowledge of environmental and planning legislation
- Experience working with regulatory bodies and conducting audits
- Strong problem‑solving skills tailored to environmental and site-specific challenges
- Excellent IT skills (Microsoft Excel & Office Suite essential)
- Strong data management, reporting, and communication abilities
- Valid driver’s licence
- High attention to quality and compliance
