Ward Personnel is an award winning and rapidly expanding recruitment firm, headquartered in Cork, with offices in Dublin and across Europe in Denmark, Germany, and Poland. We specialise in supplying staff to the construction and the mechanical and electrical sectors (M&E). As part of our continued ambitious growth plans, we are now recruiting for a Chief Operations Officer.
This role reports to the Founder and CEO, David Ward and is Cork based at our group headquarters in Blackrock, Cork City. Our clients include the majority of Ireland’s largest building contractors, and over the last fifteen years we have developed an excellent reputation as an industry leading supplier of staff (both Blue Collar and White Collar) to the wider Construction and Mechanical and Electrical sectors in Ireland. We are now also expanding our service offerings into Europe as part of our continued scaling.
Our direct staff of circa fifty people, manage a weekly workforce of more than six hundred workers across our clients’ construction projects in Ireland, Denmark and Germany.
This role assumes full P&L responsibility for the Group and has six direct reports from the wider Management Team (including Sales, Operations, Finance, HR, IT, Marketing, Compliance etc).
Key Operational, Commercial and Strategic Responsibilities of the role:
- Lead the management team: Lead the company’s financial and operational performance by managing the six existing direct reports from the management team.
- Drive growth and continue to scale the business: Continue to build on the growth and scaling to date by working with the CEO and Management team on growth initiatives, including servicing additional markets in Europe.
- Drive Operational Efficiency: Streamline recruitment workflows and candidate sourcing strategies. Standardize processes to increase productivity across the company.
- Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement operational strategies aligned with long-term company objectives and financial goals.
- Client, Candidate & Stakeholder Management: Build and maintain strong relationships across the business internally and externally by overseeing client and candidate service quality and delivery.
- Financial Management and Oversight: Monitor operating budgets, track key KPIs, and work with the finance team to prepare and review key performance reports weekly and monthly. Ultimately drive improved profitability, return on investment, and cash flow generation across the business.
- Brand Development: Work with the team to develop marketing strategies and action plans to continue to build brand awareness and support the sales teams as part of the overall strategic growth plans.
- Compliance & Risk Management: Ensure strict adherence to labour laws, health and safety regulations, and construction-specific compliance requirements.
- Team Leadership & HR: Manage internal staff, including hiring, retention, training, and setting performance goals for the respective teams.
- Technology & Data Implementation: Oversee the efficient use and enhancement of our Tech Stack to drive operational efficiencies that support increased profitability and growth.
The successful candidate will ideally:
- Have at least 10 years Senior Management experience – preferably in recruitment and/or the construction sector or a related field.
- Have relevant strategic, commercial, operational and financial experience in leading a large business and team.
- Have experience of full P&L responsibility across a large business and team.
- Have some International experience or exposure – ideally in Europe.
- Have excellent leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills to manage, motivate, mentor and grow the team.
- Have excellent IT skills and have a very strong attention to detail.
- Have the ambition and work ethic to continue to grow and develop an already highly-successful business.
- Be results focused and a strong team player, to work closely and constructively with leadership colleagues to drive the continued profitable growth of the business.
