Roof Truss & Metal Web Joist Designer

A well-established and growing company in the timber engineering sector is seeking an experienced Roof Truss and Metal Web Joist Designer to join its dynamic design team. This is an exciting opportunity for a technically skilled professional to contribute to a wide range of residential and commercial projects, using industry-leading software and collaborating with a variety of stakeholders.

Role Overview

The successful candidate will be responsible for producing accurate, cost-effective, and structurally sound designs for timber roof trusses and metal web joists. This role requires strong technical knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to work closely with customers, architects, engineers, and production teams to deliver high-quality solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create detailed roof truss and metal web joist designs using ITW GangNail software (or similar).
  • Interpret architectural and structural drawings, specifications, and client requirements.
  • Ensure designs meet structural integrity, regulatory standards, and manufacturing capabilities.
  • Liaise with clients and internal teams to clarify design details and resolve queries.
  • Provide accurate material lists, quotations, and costings.
  • Support production teams with scheduling and fabrication details.
  • Ensure compliance with building regulations, health & safety standards, and best practices.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement in design processes and customer service.
  • Assist in mentoring junior design staff as needed.

Key Requirements

  • 3–5+ years’ experience in roof truss and metal web joist design.
  • Proficiency in ITW GangNail software preferred; experience with MiTek or Wolf Systems also considered.
  • Strong understanding of construction drawings, load paths, and structural requirements.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Knowledge of Irish building regulations and timber engineering standards desirable.
  • Fluent English and proficiency in MS Office.

Desirable Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience liaising directly with builders, timber frame manufacturers, and site teams.
  • Familiarity with Irish and/or UK construction markets.
  • Qualification in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, Architectural Technology, or related discipline.
  • Experience with multiple design systems is an advantage.
