Site Engineer –Synchronous Compensator Project

About the Role

A leading civil and infrastructure contractor is seeking a talented Site Engineer to support the delivery of a major Synchronous Compensator Project. This role suits someone with strong engineering and setting‑out expertise on civils, energy, substation, or M&E-integrated projects.

You will play a key technical role on site, ensuring works are set out accurately, built in accordance with design, and delivered safely and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

Engineering & Technical

  • Perform accurate setting out for civil, structural, and M&E elements.
  • Interpret drawings, specifications, method statements, and design documents.
  • Assist with design coordination, RFIs, and technical queries.
  • Support installation works associated with synchronous compensator and HV/MV equipment interfaces.

Quality Assurance

  • Maintain and update ITPs, quality check sheets, and as‑built documentation.
  • Conduct inspections, surveys, and testing in line with project requirements.
  • Ensure works meet all design, specification, and regulatory standards.

Site Support

  • Work closely with the Site Agent and Project Manager to plan upcoming works.
  • Coordinate daily with subcontractors, ensuring clear communication and readiness.
  • Support safe delivery through accurate RAMS reviews, permits, and toolbox inputs.

Reporting & Documentation

  • Keep accurate records of work completed, materials used, and site issues.
  • Produce daily engineering logs, progress reports, and survey data.
  • Assist with progress forecasting and short-term planning.

Required Experience

  • 2–5+ years’ experience as a Site Engineer, Setting Out Engineer, or similar role.
  • Strong experience in civils, energy infrastructure, substation, or M&E-heavy environments.
  • Proficiency with surveying instruments (GPS, total station, levels).
  • Solid understanding of engineering principles, QA processes, and site documentation.

Desirable

  • Exposure to rotating machinery, synchronous compensators, or high-voltage installations.
  • Engineering qualification (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, or similar).
  • Experience working on regulated electrical or substation sites.
