Health & Safety Officer – Tier 1 Contractor (Development, Dublin 8)
Duration: 14‑month contract
Location: Dublin 8 (City‑Centre, Tight Site)
Hours of Work: 7.30am – 5.30pm
Parking provided: Yes
Start: ASAP
Company: Tier 1 Main Contractor
The Opportunity
A Tier 1 main contractor delivering a high‑profile hotel development in Dublin 8 is seeking an experienced Health & Safety Officer. This is not a “tick‑the‑box” position — the successful candidate will be embedded on site, visible, proactive, and hands‑on in all aspects of safety management.
This project involves a constrained, city‑centre site, so experience working in similar urban environments and with Tier 1 contractors is essential.
Key Requirements
- Proven Tier 1 contractor experience on major construction projects (hotel, commercial, large residential, or similar).
- Experience working on tight, congested city-centre sites, ideally in Dublin.
- Strong understanding of Irish construction regulations, PSDP/PSCS obligations, and industry best practice.
- Ability to drive safety culture on site, not just audit paperwork.
- Confident communicator who can work closely with site management, subcontractors, and the client team.
- Ability to anticipate risks, proactively address hazards, and ensure works proceed safely in a fast‑moving environment.
- Relevant H&S qualification (e.g., Level 7/8 in Occupational Health & Safety, NEBOSH/IOSH etc.).
What This Role Looks Like Day‑to‑Day
- Being on the ground, engaging with foremen, subcontractors, and crews.
- Carrying out dynamic risk assessments, not just scheduled audits.
- Supporting lift plans, hot works, traffic management, deliveries, and high‑risk activities.
- Ensuring full compliance with the Safety Management System while adding practical site‑based guidance.
- Championing a positive safety culture through toolbox talks, briefings, and coaching.
- Managing incident investigations, CAPAs, and reporting.
Candidate Profile
You’re looking for someone who is:
- Hands‑on, visible, and practical — someone who doesn’t sit in the office all day.
- Confident in making decisions and challenging unsafe behaviours.
- Comfortable working within the structure and expectations of a Tier 1 contractor.
- Energetic, proactive, and able to stay ahead of the programme on a tight site.
