Health & Safety Officer

Location: Rathcoole & Leopardstown, Dublin
Sector: Educational Construction Projects
Reporting To: Health & Safety Manager

About the Role

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Health & Safety Officer to join a leading construction team delivering two significant educational projects in Rathcoole and Leopardstown, Dublin.

The successful candidate will play a key role in promoting and maintaining the highest standards of health, safety, quality, and environmental compliance across both sites. Working closely with project teams, subcontractors, and management, you will help foster a positive safety culture where safe working practices are embedded in every aspect of project delivery.

As a member of the project management team, you will have the opportunity to positively influence site behaviours, drive continuous improvement initiatives, and ensure all works are completed in accordance with company policies and statutory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Regularly review and update Company Risk Assessments, Method Statements, Safe Operating Procedures, and Safety Statements.
  • Conduct site inspections, audits, and safety observations to ensure compliance with legislation and company procedures.
  • Deliver Health & Safety inductions to all employees, visitors, and subcontractors, maintaining accurate training records.
  • Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, preparing detailed reports and ensuring corrective actions are implemented promptly.
  • Provide relevant accident and incident information for insurance and regulatory purposes.
  • Identify training requirements and ensure all mandatory Health & Safety training remains current.
  • Monitor and enforce the correct use of PPE across all project personnel.
  • Support the implementation and enforcement of company Health & Safety policies and procedures.
  • Review subcontractor Safety Statements, Risk Assessments, and compliance documentation.
  • Participate in and contribute to regular Health & Safety meetings.
  • Liaise with site management teams to ensure safe systems of work are maintained at all times.
  • Monitor site activities to ensure compliance with relevant legislation, industry standards, and company requirements.
  • Promote a proactive safety culture through engagement, communication, and leadership.

Candidate Requirements

Essential

  • Relevant third-level qualification in Health & Safety or related discipline.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in a Health & Safety role within the construction sector.
  • Strong knowledge of Irish Health & Safety legislation and industry best practices.
  • Experience working with HSQE management systems and standards.
  • Proficient in conducting site inspections, audits, and risk assessments.
  • Excellent report-writing and documentation skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Full clean driving licence and willingness to travel between project locations.

Desirable

  • Experience working on educational, commercial, or public sector projects.
  • Membership of IOSH, IIRSM, or equivalent professional body.
  • Additional Health & Safety certifications and training.
