Role Overview
The Tender Planner will play a key role in the pre-construction process by developing fully resourced and logically linked tender programmes for major projects. Working closely with bid managers, estimators, design teams, and project delivery leads, this role ensures that all tender submissions are backed by robust planning methodology and realistic timelines that reflect project constraints, risks, and opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
Tender Planning & Programme Development
- Prepare detailed preliminary tender programmes in line with client requirements and bid strategies.
- Develop construction methodology in conjunction with bid and technical teams.
- Produce phasing, sequencing, logistics, and traffic management plans for inclusion in submissions.
- Identify key project milestones, constraints, long-lead items, and critical path activities.
- Use planning outputs to support pricing, resourcing, and delivery strategies.
Coordination & Collaboration
- Work closely with bid managers, estimators, design managers, and operational teams to align programme with tender strategy.
- Attend tender launch meetings, progress meetings, and tender review sessions.
- Consult with supply chain partners to validate durations, methodologies, and sequencing.
- Liaise with design teams to integrate design deliverables with project timelines (Design Programme).
Risk Analysis & Value Engineering
- Carry out programme risk analysis and highlight potential delays or challenges early.
- Identify programme opportunities to enhance competitiveness and reduce delivery risk.
- Support value engineering exercises by proposing alternative sequences, materials, or construction approaches.
Documentation & Presentation
- Prepare high‑quality planning deliverables, reports, and narratives for formal bid submissions.
- Present programme content in client interviews, technical clarifications, and post-tender negotiations.
- Provide handover briefings to project teams following successful tenders.
Software & Technical Proficiency
- Develop and manage programmes using Primavera P6 and/or MS Project.
- Produce 2D logistics plans and sequencing diagrams using AutoCAD or BIM tools (desirable).
- Support development of 4D planning models (Navisworks, Synchro) where required.
Skills & Experience Required
- 5+ years’ planning experience with a Tier 1 or major Tier 2 contractor.
- Strong background in building construction, civil engineering, or specialist sectors (pharma, data centres, healthcare).
- Previous experience preparing tender-stage programmes is highly desirable.
- Proficiency in P6 and MS Project is essential.
- Strong understanding of construction methodologies and sequence of works.
- Ability to interpret complex drawings, specifications, and technical information.
- Excellent report writing, communication, and presentation skills.
- Strong commercial awareness and understanding of how programme impacts cost.
- Engineering or construction-related degree (Civil Engineering, Construction Management, etc.) preferred.
