Setting Out Engineer (2–4 Years Experience)

Role Overview

Our client is delivering a large-scale Road Project, a flagship national infrastructure scheme involving the construction of ~12km of motorway, grade-separated junctions, bridges, underpasses and major earthworks.

Due to continued progress across multiple work fronts, they are seeking a Setting Out Engineer (2–4 years’ experience) to join the project team.

You will work as part of a high-performing site engineering team supporting the delivery of structures, earthworks and roadworks packages across key sections of the scheme.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out setting out for roadworks, drainage, and structural elements (bridges, culverts, retaining walls, underpasses)
• Interpret and work from drawings, specifications, and digital models (BIM where applicable)
• Ensure works are constructed in line with design tolerances and TII specifications
• Assist with QA/QC processes, including:
  • As-built surveys
  • Inspection test plans (ITPs)
  • Record keeping
• Support senior engineers and site management with:
  • Daily site coordination
  • Subcontractor management
  • Progress tracking
• Operate and manage survey equipment (e.g. Total Station, GPS, Leica/Trimble)
• Liaise with design teams where required regarding technical queries (RFIs)
• Ensure compliance with health & safety procedures on-site

Project Exposure

This role offers excellent hands-on experience across:

• Motorway construction (dual carriageway standard)
• Grade-separated interchanges
• Bridge structures & overbridges
• Underpasses and culverts
• Large-scale earthworks & retaining structures

Requirements

• Degree or diploma in Civil Engineering or related discipline
• 2–4 years’ experience in a site engineering / setting out role
• Experience on civils infrastructure or road projects
• Strong understanding of:
  • Setting out techniques
  • Survey equipment
  • Construction drawings
• Familiarity with AutoCAD / Civil 3D (desirable)
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving ability
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills
